His early actions as Saul (his original name)
When Paul was younger he was part of the tribe of Benjamin and he was born in Tarsus in a wealthy family. He was well educated and learnt to write in Greek ( this became an important skill in his life later on). Paul identified himself with the Pharisees and he was involved in Persecuting Christians. Paul supported the persecution of Christians and he and he was not aware of the ways of the Lord. When Paul converted to Christianity he was thought to be in his early thirties. Paul watched the stoning of st. Stephen (a Christian). When saint Paul was walking one day he was struck with the lights from the heavens. These lights were so bright that they forced Paul to the ground and he was blinded. A priest named Ananias spent many days praying for Paul. After many days of praying and hoping Paul regained his sight and he felt enlightened to the Christian Faith. Soon after this Paul decided that he wanted to abandon his horrible ways and be baptized as a Christian.
From this point on he was no longer referred to as Saul but as Paul. After Paul had converted he traveled extensively spreading the word of Christianity and Gods power. Some of the places that Paul visited were Salamis, Paphos and Attalia just on his first journey. He visited many places after this. Paul wrote letters to an extreme amount of places, 3 communities were North Athens, Romans and Ephesians. Paul's opinion on the Jerusalem Council was he believed that everyone should be excepted to the Christian community and that their faith and dedication to God was enough. St Paul was martyred, by being beheaded in Jerusalem. Paul was fortunate for he was actually a Roman citizen so his death was very mild compared to other martyrs.
My Symbol:
I chose this logo because I believe that enlighten to the christian church and enlightened many of the Christian Faith by travelling and writing many letters. I feel as though a candle is able to convey this because a candle enlightens a dark room with light. Paul wrote letters to those who were unfaithful in the Christian community and were in need of some guidance from the Lord. Paul was able to provide these people with the light to guide them to Christian Faith. This is why i believe the candle is an appropriate symbol to recognize saint Paul.
